My Setup

Even though I have suggested many different types of technology people will probably ask what I am using.

Router
For a router I am using a Linksys WRT54G version 5.0. This router is a good choice because it has the ability to have better antennas added to it. This will increase the overall range (and power) that the router can function wirelessly.

Network Communications

For network communications I have a wireless network using 802.11G. However I have implemented my ‘backbone’ on the Linksys WGA54AG Gaming Adapter and the Linksys WGA54G Gaming Adapter. These adapters allow me to overcome the standard wireless adapters by allowing my computer to think it is running on a true 100 Mbps connection. These work out really well for increasing the performance of the network. In fact, I don’t think I could maintain as high of a communication without these devices.

VoIP Phone

For a network phone I use the Linksys CIT400. This device has been very reliable over the past year I have owned it. I prefer this over other models because it is its own unit. In fact, I have even suggested this unit to other people who are not as technical as me.

Media Center

In my network I have two “home brewed” media centers. Both are very reliable devices. My main media center is a Sempron 2800+ with 1 GB of RAM. It has 3 hard drives totaling 1.1 TB. This device contains 2 tv tuners that record tv throughout the week.

The second media center was my first attempt. This is a Athlon XP 2000+ with 512 MB of RAM. I use it as mainly an extender to my main media center and a DVR style option for the family in the living room. To date, the only ‘issue’ with it is the drivers for the nVidia graphics card.
